The Bay Area's outlaw music bards bring a reputation for high-energy live shows and an incomparable fusion of folk, punk, rock, and disco to stages and festivals nationwide. This "High-Octane Hootenanny" will certainly delight those interested in a foot-stompin good time. Poor Man's Whiskey has evolved into a ragged, spontaneous beast pulling from equally deep wells of story-telling originals, expertly crafted covers and zany on-stage shenanigans.
PMW has released three studio albums, "Train to California" (2003), "Roadside Attraction"(2005), and in 2009: "Dark Side of the Moonshine" (a double disk set featuring original music as well as the bluegrass interpretation of the Pink Floyd classic album).
Recent Press
"They groan with the rundown weight of good Drive-By Truckers…PMW’s sway of smarts and wit infuses their originals, where they delight in jumbling elements in a way that pops like super balls in a cement mixer. String band? Sort of. Rock band? Sure. Prog-metal enthusiasts and swing time fellas? Absolutely. In the end, they are an original distillation, a tasty burn that goes down with a kick and lingers beautifully when it hits your gut." - Dennis Cook, Jambase.com
"The second set showed off PMW's spacey funk rock abilities, which they've been cultivating over the past year, with an instrumental jam that touched on Phish's 'First Tube.'" - Mike Bookey, The Source, Bend, OR
“We've done several shows with PMW and every time they've had the audience howling for more. They are great singers, instrumentalists, and songwriters, but above all they are entertainers. Their group chemistry invites the audience to be participants rather than onlookers. These are the kind of guys who, in the 1920s, would have been a traveling variety show, complete with freaks, stunts, and banjo comedy. Fortunately, they are here for us to enjoy now". - Nat Keefe, Hot Buttered Rum
